Two University of Calgary grad students want to promote a greater sense of community for people of all abilities.  It should be easier to find the right caregiver for your specific schedule and needs. Enable is an online matchmaking platform that partners families and people affected by disability to reliable student caregivers. They encourage community involvement, and promote healthy families.

Workshops are open to all parents/guardians with a teen in grade 7-12.  Choose the workshops that are of interest to you. I look forward to seeing you.

P4 – Post Secondary Information Session
Feb 10 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Together, parents and students will have the opportunity to hear from 5 Calgary post secondary programs.  Program Coordinators from

  1. Mount Royal University’s Transitional Vocational Program and Inclusive Post Secondary Program,
  2. UofC /St. Mary’s University,
  3. Bow Valley College
  4. Columbia College and
  5. Ambrose University will each speak for approx ½ hour including time for questions from parents and students.

Many options await your teen when they graduate from high school.   You and your teen will learn about the incredible opportunities available to them from these institutions, there is something for everyone.

FMS funded supports can provide opportunities related to education, employment, recreation and community living. Staff at the Centre will assist you with the application, approval, planning and administrative processes involved in this funding option.

P4 – Overview on Transition to Adult Services

The target audience for this workshop is for families who have a teen in grade 9 however everyone who is interested is invited to attend.  

Annamarie will give an overview of the Transition process covering timeframes of when to being applying for PDD, AISH and Guardianship, the order and importance of applying for these government programs and what else families need to think about to being this important process.

Win/Win Advice for Successful Inclusion

Join us for an interactive workshop that will give teachers practical advice, proven strategies, and appropriate modifications to accelerate learning for children with Down syndrome in the inclusive classroom.  From listening skills to literacy, behaviour management to building independence, social skills to self-esteem; our professional panel will provide expert advice to encourage teachers to think outside the box!

Session Topics Include:

  • Helping your students listen, understand and respond in the classroom
  • Teaching literacy to students with Down syndrome
  • Facilitating confidence and independence for your students
