Board of Directors

Curtis Slater – Executive Director
Bio coming soon
Belinda Mendes – President

I have a MA in Counselling Psychology and work as a Family Counsellor on the Mental Health Unit at the Alberta Children’s Hospital. I am also a mom to two wonderful children. When our first child was born with Down syndrome, I felt like I had another calling of sorts – to be more involved in his world. He is my inspiration, one of my main reasons for being on the PREP Board of Directors.

When I get some free time, you’ll find me gardening, reading, journaling or spending time with friends and family. I am also the first one to hit the dance floor as I love to dance!

Vacant – Vice President

Miranda Specht – Director

I am a mom of two wonderful children, and currently hold two volunteer positions – one of which is with PREP. I choose to sit on the PREP Board of Directors because I believe so strongly in inclusion and am inspired by people overcoming adversity with a positive attitude. I hope that my involvement will help make a difference in the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families.

I believe that a hero is someone who steps in to help without looking for recognition.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family – preferably in Arizona or Disneyland!

Jean Lemire – Director

I am an accountant and the proud dad of an inquisitive preschooler. Our little guy has Down syndrome, and PREP has been a huge part of his life since he was 6 months old.

I am inspired by ongoing learning opportunities and building long-term relationships – both of which are integral to being on the Board.

Amidst the busy tempo of life, our family makes time for fun. You’ll find us outdoors – slo pitch and camping in the summer, and snowboarding in the winter.

Mark Adolf – Director

I am a business entrepreneur and a proud family man raising two young sons. While I don’t have a direct connection to Down syndrome, I am inspired to volunteer for PREP because I believe everyday people can work together to make their community a better place to be for all of us.

When I am not working or volunteering, I am busy enjoying the great outdoors with my family – a source of great inspiration to me. A sense of humour is also very important to me – when I was in Grade 12, I enrolled in Clown School, and still have a couple of tricks up my sleeve!

Jackie Onyszko – Secretary

In my spare time I like to spend it with my family: my husband, Matt, and my daughter, Payton. I like to be active and work out but also love to sit idle and read.

I am inspired by people who have to work hard to accomplish something. I have an even greater appreciation for showing perseverance, tenacity, and strength to reach goals now that I have a daughter with Down Syndrome. You celebrate the small things so much more and truly value those who are willing to put in the extra effort.

I am volunteering at PREP because the success of this school is important for helping support our children obtain the resources and skills for a successful life. I became a member of PREP in 2015 after my daughter was born with Down Syndrome. We have loved our time and the people and I wanted to give some of my time to help support the school.

Adrienne Murray – Treasurer

I am taking a break from my oil and gas career to stay at home with my two wonderful children and a very energetic Labrador puppy. I am inspired everyday by both my children – my son, who has Down syndrome, because he has an incredible joy for life despite the extra challenges he faces, and my older daughter because she has loved and supported her brother unconditionally since the day he was born.

I am volunteering on the BOD because PREP has had such a positive impact on my son’s life. I see it as a great way to combine my business expertise with my passion for the future of PREP, and the inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome.

The Board of Directors is committed to providing barrier free access to therapy, educational and support services for families who have a child with Down syndrome in the Calgary and area region. Services are funded through contracts, sponsorships and/or donations from government, corporate, community and individual supporters. The Board’s commitment to barrier free services empowers families and inspires them to achieve PREP’s vision of “Inclusion for Life”.
